Grace - God’s Unfailing Love (Hebrew: Chesed)

Hi Everyone,

Here is some additional information on God's Unfailing Love (Hebrew: Chesed) taken from various Bible dictionaries:

God's chesed (unfailing love) denotes persistent and unconditional tenderness, kindness, and mercy, a relationship in which He seeks after man with love and mercy.

In general, one may identify three basic meanings of chesed, and these 3 meanings always interact -- strength, steadfastness, and love. Any understanding of chesed that fails to suggest all three inevitably loses some of its richness.

Chesed is related to covenant and also to the idea of grace in that chesed was (is) extended by God when it was not deserved (in truth chesed is never deserved!). God's chesed is His persistent, unconditional tenderness, kindness, and mercy; a relationship in which God seeks after man with love and mercy.

Chesed often has this flavor: it is not merely love, but loyal love; not merely kindness, but dependable kindness; not merely affection, but affection that has committed itself.

Grace=Peace,
Jeremy
