Grace

Hi there!

The mercy seat ("kapporeth" in Hebrew, "propitiation" in Greek) is the lid of the ark where blood was sprinkled for Israel's sins. It was made of solid gold which had to be beaten into shape. It was also gilded around the edges with a crown design. The mercy seat and sprinkled blood hid the contents of the ark, which represent man's sin. Thus, mercy was above (triumphed over) the law and man's sin was no longer in view. In fact, it was forbidden to look inside the ark (sorry Indy). Given that the same word propitiation is used to refer to Jesus, can you see the symbolism in who He is and what He has done? Quit trying to look inside the ark to find your sin! – Joseph Prince

Grace=Peace,
